Salmon Roe Caviar

Salmon roe caviar is pink or red in color and is generally prepared from salmon found in the waters around Alaska and Russia. Roe is the matured ovaries of any fish. Caviar is the salted, processed roe eaten as a delicacy around the world.

Salmon roe caviar can be purchased fresh, kosher or semi prepared. Salmon roe is the only roe considered to be kosher because the salmon fish has scales. Sturgeon fish do not have scales.

Salmon roe caviar can be used raw or as an ingredient cooked in many dishes. The finest caviar is most commonly eaten raw and plain. It is also known as red caviar.
