Eco friendly clothing
Eco friendly clothing is created from a variety of sustainable
materials. This means that the materials used do not require taking
more from our environmental resources than can naturally be replenished.
The source of a fiber and how renewable it is helps us define how sustainable
a particular material is. Other relevant factors include the method
in which the fiber is transformed into a textile, and the working conditions
of those creating the fabric.
Eco friendly clothing is either created from natural fibers or manufactured
from natural materials. Natural fibers are either cellulose or protein,
which means they’re either plant or animals fibers respectively.
Cellulose fiber options include organic cotton, flax, hemp, abaca, soy
and even banana and pineapple. Green protein fiber encompasses such
things as wool, silk, angora, lama, cashmere, and mohair. Lyocell and
Polylactic acid or polylactide (PLA) are examples of fibers which are
manufactured from natural materials.
Today, there are many designers who are interested in creating eco
friendly clothing. Often, they are interested in creating contemporary,
sustainable fashions in a way that isn’t synonymous with “hippy
clothing.” Stella McCartney is an example of a designer who keeps
sustainability in mind. Recently, eco-friendly fashion lines are popping
up, including SANS which has come from the minds of Lika Volkova and
Alessandro De Vito.
